It's not every day you hear a cellist sing. But then it's not every day an artist makes a breakthrough like Anne Janelle's solo debut Beauty Remains.

Anne moves so gracefully between classical and contemporary styles, you'd think it was easy. Her songs, which boil with complexity and candor, are a special blend of influences that range from Martin Sexton and Ani DiFranco to Mozart and Vivaldi. Whether stripped-bare ("Beauty Remains," "That One"), richly orchestrated ("God Is In the Details," "Orbits and Lace"), her music swirls with emotion, honesty and fresh perspectives.
